British Wireless for the Blind Fund has been providing specially adapted radios to visually impaired people for more than 80 years. We pride ourselves on providing a personal service to each individual who receives a new set. For people with sight loss, life becomes a challenge; not just the difficulty of getting out and about, but also the everyday tasks that we take for granted – like turning on the radio in the morning to listen to the news. British Wireless for the Blind Fund exists to help improve the daily lives of visually impaired people, who are unable to afford a specially adapted radio, by providing the equipment on free loan.
We are looking for people to help us give out and demonstrate our sets to recipients in Dundee. This role involves visiting blind and partially sighted people in their homes, installing their new radio and teaching them how to use it as well as providing ongoing support where needed. This role also involves a small amount of admin.
The role involves contacting recipients by phone to agree appointment time; visiting people in their homes and installing our audio equipment; giving instruction about and demonstrating the equipment; completing paperwork for each visit; making a follow up telephone call and if required arrange further visit and training; collecting broken sets and arranging repairs; and delivering replacement sets to existing clients.
