Dundee Therapy Garden is a mental health charity providing Horticultural Therapy to veterans of the Armed Forces and Uniformed Services. We use gardening activities to facilitate improvements in mental and physical health and social functioning. We work from a purpose built site in Dudhope Park. Many volunteers are engaged in working directly with veterans but many other opportunities are also available.
An essential part of the sessions is the social experience of meal times and coffee breaks. We are looking for support in our kitchen, cooking lunches for groups of up to a dozen people per day. We would like our veterans to be able to recreate recipes in their own homes so simple meals and one-pot recipes are ideal.
We encourage all our volunteers to engage with our veterans in sessions, but this role would be focussed mainly on running and managing the kitchen. This would free up staff and horticulture volunteers to focus on the veterans in the garden.
We can provide the training required to work with veterans with mental health problems. We need you to bring enthusiasm, and some culinary experience.
