Shelter Scotland provide a range of services to the public, agencies and target groups, offering free, expert and confidential advice and advocacy on a wide range of housing issues, e.g. homelessness, rent and mortgage arrears, evictions, repairs, landlords/tenants disputes, housing benefit.

Volunteers will provide initial contact for anybody either dropping in to our local advice Hub, or visiting one of our community outreach sessions, for support with their housing issues. Volunteers will talk to people about their needs then support them to access information on our website, complete forms, or access another service.

Main Tasks: Welcoming people to the Hub or a community outreach session; Discussing peoples’ needs with them and assessing if they need advisor support; Assisting people in navigating the ‘Get Advice’ pages on the Shelter Scotland website; Providing information on Shelter Scotland services and signposting to other external agencies; Supporting people to complete online forms or applications (e.g. for benefits); Supporting the service with some basic admin and data input tasks; The volunteer is not expected to give advice on housing issues to clients. Any people requiring advice should be referred to an Advisor.
