Macmillan Move More Walk Leader

Macmillan/Leisure & Culture Dundee are looking for open, warm and friendly individuals who love to walk and have a chat to help us support people affected by cancer to become more active by leading health walks throughout Dundee.

Walk leaders can make a significant difference to people’s lives as when you’re living with or after cancer, physical activity can help you make a positive change to your life. Doctors used to advise people to rest as much as possible during and after cancer treatment, however we now know that too much rest results in loss of muscle strength and low energy levels. It is for this reason that we are delivering the Move More project. The aim of the project is to support anyone affected by cancer to become more active by walking.

Health walkers can enjoy a whole range of benefits including increased strength, improved mood and increased social interactions with local people and the local area. Walking requires no special equipment or expense and is the ideal way for most people to become more active. The walks take place across Dundee. All of our walks are close to bus routes, however we will place any new volunteers in walks that are best suited to them. We want to make sure all the walks are accessible and this includes for the volunteer walk leaders.

No experience necessary as training is offered for all volunteers. The volunteer must enjoy walking though. We are looking for a weekly commitment of about 2 hours per week. The opportunity is year round.  The opportunity is year round. Macmillan cancer awareness training will  be given as well as full walk leader training to deliver Move More walking groups.
