Link Up Whitfield is one of this year’s Youth Friendly Organisation finalists at the upcoming Youth Volunteering Awards.
Link Up is a project which works slightly differently compared to other organisations; where the community approach the project with ideas for activities, and the staff help to bring them to fruition. Many of these groups act as a variety of opportunities for young people to volunteer including – volunteering within the dance group, gardening group, community café, cinema club and additional support needs family group. As a result, the young people bring special qualities to the organisation such as fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
At Link Up, volunteers are provided with individual support and opportunities for training and personal development. For example, their dance group has taken part in drama and dance workshops, and many other volunteers have been involved in first aid training, REHIS training and Adult Achievement Awards.
Volunteers are regularly recognised and celebrated by Link Up; where all young people are registered for Saltire Awards, receive certificates through their local North East Celebration Event and many have been nominated for the Youth Volunteering Awards. Link Up also enjoys giving back to their volunteers by celebrating their volunteers’ birthdays, going on trips and holding an annual Christmas party.
Link Up Whitfield have no minimum or maximum age for being involved, and work with anyone on any idea, which means they really cater to the individual. We wish the best of luck to them at this year’s Youth Volunteering Awards!
