Dundee Therapy Garden is a mental health charity providing Horticultural Therapy to veterans of the Armed Forces and Uniformed Services. We use gardening activities to facilitate improvements in mental and physical health and social functioning. We work from a purpose built site in Dudhope Park. Many volunteers are engaged in working directly with veterans but many other opportunities are also available.
Veterans Mentor – Therapeutic Gardening
This role presents a good opportunity to develop skills and experience in supporting people with mental health problems whilst learning about therapeutic gardening. We need a friendly, supportive and compassionate person to facilitate and support our therapeutic sessions with veterans. Active listening and a sense of humour are necessary tools, however, everything else can be learned. You will be expected to reinforce positive lifestyle messages and support veterans during their sessions, including maintaining a tidy and secure working environment.
