Harris Academy pupil Aidan Cram is one of the 2018 recipients of the Saltire Summit Award. Aidan received this award based on his voluntary work with the school’s First Lego League club – which has a mix of S1 to S3 pupils – and providing Peer Support to S3 and S6 pupils.
Aidan demonstrated going above and beyond during his time leading the First Lego League, through spending hours of training and preparation with pupils, in and outwith school hours. He even ran and promoted the group when the teacher who originally supervised, was promoted within the school.
His exceeding dedication and hard work was also displayed through his efforts with the club. He has taught pupils how to code the ‘Mindstorms Lego Robot’, participated in regional competitions (where his team won best project) and introduced new computational constructs – which is all very challenging!
Aidan is a well-liked and respected volunteer noted for his determined, but encouraging nature, which has further shone through his ability to encourage others to join and continue the club. A difference has also been made with other pupils within the school through Aidan taking part in Peer Support. He has assisted in an S3 and Higher Computing class helping pupils who have had no programming experience solve certain tasks. Finally, his Advanced Higher Computing project was adopted by a local business in Perth which is making good use of the system. Having left school, Aidan now aims to help the Advanced Higher Computing Class. Congratulations Aidan on your Saltire Summit Award!
