Breakthrough is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2017 and based in Dundee. Breakthrough’s primary aim is to reach out to care-experienced and other young people who have faced or are likely to face significant challenges in their lives. Our charity supports young people S1 to S6 in Dundee’s secondary schools and provides aspirational mentorship and opportunity. By connecting adult mentors as well as commercial and educational organisations with young people, Breakthrough aims to provide the guidance and opportunity that can transform lives and counteract the long-term effects of adverse experience.

Mentoring involves committing to meeting a young person in school for one hour each week during term time for between 1-2 years. The Breakthrough team will provide you with initial training to fully prepare you to take on a mentoring role and they also provide excellent on going training opportunities and support throughout your time as a member. Training is offered at various times of day and in the evenings to enable as many people as possible to attend. Each mentor is carefully matched to a young person taking into account personality, hobbies, interests and careers and because every young person is different, Breakthrough needs as wide a range of mentors as possible from all backgrounds.
